Imprest Administrator

Job describtion:
The 09 ACP SUR 13 Suriname Sustainable Tourism Capacity Building Programme which is being funded by the European Union delegation is recruiting a Imprest Administrator. This project is being authorized by the Ministry of Planning and Development Cooperation who has cooperation with the organization TOURS with regard to the above mentioned programme.

Responsibilities :
1.The Imprest Administrator will be mainly responsible for the implementation of the technical and operational parts of Tourism Working Programme (or Programme Estimate) as well as the daily management of the project activities.

2.  During the implementation of the imprest component of the budget of the programme estimate, the imprest administrator will also be responsible for all expenditure commitments, payment authorizations and recoveries.

Activities:
The Imprest Administrator will be undertaking the following activities:
•  Supporting the project accountant during the executing of his/ her working activities
•  Arranging regular meetings with stakeholders
•  Is responsible for the daily management of project activities
•  Is able to take care of a proper administration of the project
•  Is responsible for preparing quarterly technical and financial reports which should be submitted to all institutions and  persons involved in the project
•  Has to assist in the evaluation of the project

Requirements:
The following qualifications and skills are required:
• Bachelor or higher degree in management, economics or related disciplines;
• At least five (5) years of experience in management and operations at a senior management level in the (tourism) private sector;
•  Previous project management experience preferably in EUD projects;
•  Excellent interpersonal, leadership and communications and social skills;
•  Verbal and written fluency in Dutch and English;
• Strong communication skills including the ability to explain, negotiate, promote and report the program goals.

Aanbieding van het Suriname Millennium Development Goals Voortgangs Rapport (MDGs) 2009

 

Op vrijdag 23 april 2010 vond de aanbieding van  het Suriname MDG Voortgangsrapport plaats door de Minister van Planning & Ontwikkelingssamenwerking, Dr. R. van Ravenswaay, aan de President van de Republiek Suriname, Drs. R.R. Venetiaan, plaats.

Deze formele overhandiging vond plaats, onder grote belangstelling van hoogwaardigheids bekleders van de regering (kabinet VP, ministers, directeuren & onderdirecteuren, beleidsadviseurs, DNA vertegenwoordigers), Korps diplomatiek, Internationale organisaties, Private sector, NGO's, Vertegenwoordigers van de MDG Technische Werkgroep en de media.  

Na de toespraak van de VN Resident Coordinator, Mw. Dr. M. de Castro en van de Minister van PLOS, Dhr. Dr. R. van Ravenswaay, werd er door een van de vertegenwoordigers van de MDG Technische Werkgroep, Mw. Drs. J. Fung A Loi van ABS, een korte uiteenzetting gegeven over de stand van zaken van de MDGs in Suriname.

Suriname is vastberaden bij te dragen aan het tot stand komen van de MDGs, oftewel de Millennium Ontwikkelingsdoelen, waar nodig aangepast aan de nationale ontwikkelingsprioriteiten (MOP 2006-2011).  Als onderdeel van het monitoren van nationale ontwikkelingsdoelen en daaruit voortvloeiend de MDGs, moet Suriname jaarlijks rapporteren over het bereiken van de voorgenomen doelen aan de VN.

Het gaat er om dat landen in de wereld een gemeenschappelijke verantwoordelijkheid dragen om de MDGs, bestaande uit 8 hoofddoelen, vervat in een wereldagenda te kunnen realiseren. Het komt er in het kort op neer dat wereldleiders zich hebben gecommitteerd ervoor te zorgen dat in de periode 1990 tot 2015 het volgende bereikt wordt:

Doel 1: Extreme armoede en honger uitbannen

Doel 2: Basis onderwijs voor een ieder wereldwijd toegankelijk

Doel 3: Gelijkheid van mannen en vrouwen bevorderen en vrouwen meer kansen en

zeggenschap bieden

Doel 4: Kindersterfte terugdringen

Doel 5: De gezondheid van moeders verbeteren  

Doel 6: Strijden tegen HIV/AIDS, malaria en andere ziekten

Doel 7: Waarborgen van een duurzaam milieu

Doel 8: Werken aan een mondiaal partnerschap voor ontwikkeling

Vermeldenswaard is dat Suriname voor wat betreft de strijd tegen Malaria ruim op schema is. In 2009 is het voorkomen van malaria met 90% gereduceerd en het sterfte cijfer als gevolg van malaria is gedaald tot 0.0%. Deze resultaten waren boven verwachting. Ook zijn er op andere gebieden zichtbare vooruitgangen geboekt.

Suriname staat voor de uitdaging om het nu gepresenteerd MDG voortgangsrapport 2009 te evalueren en het proces in te zetten om de ontwikkelingsdoelen, die voor ons als land nog een grote uitdaging zijn, aan te pakken.
